Richmond County, North Carolina

Richmond County is located in North Carolina, with a population of over 46,000.

Richmond county was founded in 1779, and named after the 3rd Duke of Richmond. The main settlements in the area were founded by Kader Keaton, a Colonial American officer.

Hamlet, a city in Richmond County has a rich railway history, housing the Hamlet Historical Depot Seaboard Air Line Passenger Depot, a train station which is on the National Register of Historic Places, and underwent a complete restoration in 2004.

Richmond County also boasts the Rockingham Speedway which hosts racing events hosted by ARCA, USAR Pro Cup, and UARA.

The Sandhills Game Lands and the Pee Dee Wildlife refuge are open to the public, offering hiking, biking, horseback riding, boating, and hunting. Fishing is also available at Blewett Falls, the largest lake in the county.
